The following Monday, Conan takes over as host of the <em>Tonight Show</em>. (See <a href="http://www.notablequotables.com/news.html">http://www.notablequotables.com/news.html</a>)<br /><br />The real story around town is where will Leno go next? He's definitely a hot property, having won 13 straight years of late night battles against a very strong and competitive field (think Letterman, Arsenio Hall, Pat Sajek, Magic Johnson, Chevy Chase, Alan Thicke, Martin Short). Jay's never really won critical acclaim, but he's certainly got the popular vote. And what a popular vote it now is, as network heads and talent agents want him.<br /><br />Privately, many "experts" feel that Conan wouldn't stand a chance in a head-to-head matchup between the two. Contributing to this assumption is Conan's recent ratings slide against Craig Ferguson and a certain unease as to whether Conan's off-beat, niche humor will appeal to a wider 11:30 audience. (I'll get into Jimmy Fallon, Conan's replacement, in another blog post).<br /><br />The earliest Leno can entertain offers is November 2009; the earliest Leno will leave NBC is January 2010. How do you think Conan will do as host of <em>The Tonight Show</em>? How long will it take Conan to settle into such a prestigious chair? After some minor updates, I just did a major redesign on 7/16/08. And now?
